ANN’S MYROW DIARY W/C 21st December 2021

BOAT = Byway Open to All Traffic!!!It’s now the beginning of the ninth year of a very long story!

I remain extremely surprised that residents in Pockthorpe Lane have not objected very strongly to the possibility of traffic from the beginning of Pockthorpe Lane to Sparrow Hill.

Basically Norfolk County Council are claiming that Pockthorpe Lane continues to Sparrow hill, through my garden! This is based on parish and council minutes from 1914 saying that they were going to adopt Pockthorpe lane ( any one speaking the truth will tell you that no such road ever existed and Pockthorpe Lane always finished at my old cottage. The land was then Estate Land, in strict settlement, with no one in a position to dedicate anything!)

The Public Rights of Way system is corrupt and not fit for purpose and therefore extremely difficult to fight! ……..but as you know I am not good at keeping my mouth shut or bowing down to illegal claptrap from anyone!I think that such inquiries should be in a court of law  as they are nothing short of legalised land theft, but nevertheless it is in Thompson Community hall on 22nd February and will probably take three days (at tax payers expense)It’s public so anyone is free to come and watch the fireworks!!!

  1. If your parish council wants to know what happens to BOAT’s you should introduce them to the Green Lane Environmental Action Movement (GLEAM) their website will show them how damaging and anti social these types of rights of way are. The off roading community are a nightmare, I should know we have a BOAT/Restricted byway to the back of our property and a Unclassified County Road (UCR) running up our driveway. Every weekend is a nightmare, people basically use them like playgrounds and scramble tracks for testing their off road vehicles.
I wish you the best of luck and no doubt it wouldn’t stack up in a court of law.

  2. Thank you for your comment. I agree entirely. It is unfortunate that not many people realise the implications of these claims. It is a free for all to claim Restricted byways, byways open to all traffic, bridleways, soft roads, cycle tracks etc etc. There are endless pressure groups, all with their own agenda and public money available as a free flowing tap to support them, misconceived or not.
