Does my house insurance cover me for the expense of a Public Right of Way claim through my property?

If you have the possibility of ramblers claiming a Public Footpath through your land it is imperative that you check your house insurance which may cover you for this.

“What do you mean there’s no Footpath?” Check your insurance!

The cover starts as soon as the Council makes an order. It will cover you for the cost of an enquiry including a solicitor and barrister.

NFU house insurance includes this. If you find another insurance company that includes this cover then please let us know so that others can benefit.

Do not delay one second if you have any possibility of someone trying to claim a ‘lost’ footpath on your land.

If you have a claim against you it stands to cost you thousands of pounds to fight it.

I realised this morning that those people who actually desperately need this web site are likely to be quite unaware of the fact. Most of us have absolutely no interest in or knowledge about Public Rights of Way until we are faced with someone claiming one on our property!

Unfortunately, for those who already have a problem it will be too late to obtain insurance.

I was lucky and just happened to notice that NFU had added an extra benefit to my insurance in 2015. Long before the BOAT order from Norfolk County Council thankfully!
